The interdisciplinary masters program has successfully established itself at NSU

Undergraduates with a pilot recruitment for the Interdisciplinary Master's program "Information Technologies, Bioinformatics and Digital Agrotechnologies" of Novosibirsk State University are successfully completing their studies in 2020. They began their studies in 2018.

The program is aimed at training highly qualified specialists in computer science and bioinformatics with knowledge in the field of selection and genetics, agricultural technology, capable of developing modern information technologies.

Graduates of this program will have the skills to analyze biological data, have knowledge in the field of selection and genetics, agricultural technology, will be able to develop modern information technologies and IT tools to solve problems arising in the field of genomics, systems biology, digital agriculture and the Internet of things in Agribusinesses are able to effectively use modern information technologies and IT tools to solve specific problems in the field of precision farming, breeding, fundamental biolo gii and medicine.

- Competencies of specialists will be relevant for the development of large and extra-large databases in the field of bioinformatics, geomonitoring, the creation of high-tech high-performance software for analyzing crop monitoring data and predicting their condition, planning experiments on genetics and selection. The joint training of undergraduates with a different educational base (biologists, computer science, mathematics and physics), as well as the design form of practical work in most new courses, work in mixed groups of biologists and computer scientists lead to a deeper understanding of both biology and computer science, which is important for this direction . The graduate students of our pilot recruitment, who entered the program in 2018, have already appreciated the benefits of this approach, said the teachers of the master's program.

The training program includes educational disciplines that allow students to obtain both a high-quality theoretical base, and practical skills for further application. Training under the master's program provides for the passage of research practice, in which students consolidate theoretical knowledge, perform experimental work, independently seek solutions to practical problems and analyze the results. Research practice takes place on the basis of leading research institutes.

Admission to the program "Information Technologies, Bioinformatics and Digital Agrotechnologies" suggests two possible "entry points": through biology or computer science and computer technology. Be sure to take into account personal achievements. Duration of study - 2 years.
